OUR STORY

repp + mclain design and construction is an award-winning architecture firm and design-build studio based in Tucson, Arizona. We are designers and builders, architects and fabricators, problem-solvers and makers. Our team includes designers, project managers, builders, metal workers, wood shapers, and expert craftspeople who share a love of modern, desert-appropriate architecture. We work across scales and disciplines, united by a belief that design and construction are strongest when they happen together.

A Foundation of Craft

Our studio began in 1996 as a “laboratory” for architectural exploration founded by Page Repp. A third-generation builder, Page’s vision was to bridge the gap between architectural concept and the physical act of making. This foundation was strengthened in 2002 with the arrival of Rick McLain, who became a partner in 2008. Together, they solidified our reputation as a leading Tucson architecture firm specializing in urban revitalization, navigating the complexities of the desert landscape by designing and building their own award-winning commercial headquarters on 1st Avenue.

The Evolution of the Partnership

RMDC leadership further evolved with the addition of Shane Dean as a Partner in 2023. Bringing a lifelong background in carpentry and a craftsman’s precision, Shane reinforced our commitment to detail-driven execution. His ability to move seamlessly between the drafting table and the job site ensures that our “maker” ethos remains at the center of every project. Today, the three partners lead a multidisciplinary team that thrives on the “puzzle-solving” phase of construction—turning complex plans into enduring, desert-appropriate reality.

Innovation Through Making

From iconic local gathering spots like Falora and SideCar to custom modern residences like our Ventana Home, our work is a celebration of the Sonoran Desert—its light, its materials, and its character. We operate under a fluid design-build model where concepts are refined on-site and challenges are solved with an architect’s eye. We don’t just build structures; we craft environments that enhance the lives of those who inhabit them, ensuring that the integrity of a design is never lost during the build process.

While our partners set the vision, the true strength of our work lies in the collective expertise of our team. Meet our entire team of architects, superintendents, and craftspeople who bring these desert-inspired spaces to life.
