The Repp Residence was originally conceived in 1998 not just as a home, but as a bold experiment in attainable modernism. Serving as the owner’s architectural thesis project, the structure was a challenge in efficiency, successfully constructed in a mere 42 days. The primary goal was to prove that high-design aesthetics and sustainable living could be achieved on a modest budget.

By utilizing a palette of energy-efficient and industrial-grade materials, the design prioritized thermal performance and longevity. The use of low-maintenance finishes ensured the dwelling would remain cost-effective throughout its lifespan, establishing a blueprint for durable, affordable housing in the desert Southwest.

A renovation and addition to the original house was completed in 2007 to add 1,000 additional square feet and a garage to the existing house. In addition to new interior spaces including a master suite and “manden”, the renovation included the installation of sophisticated and maintenance-free cement board exterior wall panels to replace the existing metal panel. The result provides updated and modernized spaces while preserving the original design concepts of this iconic house.
